A Greeneville man was arrested in Washington County after fleeing from deputies early Monday morning.
According to Sheriff Keith Sexton, deputies attempted to stop 28-year-old Craven Nijell Howard shortly after midnight on Highway 11-E due to no operating headlight on the driver’s side of his vehicle. Howard reportedly accelerated and fled through downtown Jonesborough. He continued toward State Route 34, where he failed to negotiate the roundabout and struck a guardrail. He then fled on foot and was apprehended near the Jonesborough Town Garage. While fleeing, deputies saw Howard discard a clear wrapper which contained approximately 2.5 grams of marijuana.
Howard was charged with two counts of evading arrest, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, tampering with evidence, simple possession, violation of the open container law, and speeding.
His bond was set at $14,000, with an initial court date held on Monday.
