The Greeneville-Greene County Public Library is excited to announce the details for the upcoming Annual Book Sale, which will take place over the first three weekends of May. The event this year will be held at the former George Clem School at 312 Floral Street, in what used to be the gymnasium and bus depot. As one of the largest book sales in the region, this event is always highly-anticipated in the community and draws readers from outside the area as well.
A team of dedicated volunteers have been preparing the new location and sorting through the thousands of books, CDs, DVDs and games since early March. The vast majority of those items come from donations from the community, and the proceeds from their sale goes directly to support the library and its mission. This is the largest fundraising event for the library each year, and it is a vital supplement to the funding the library receives from the city and county governments.
The new location is a little smaller than the previous location at Greene Valley, but the number of available titles is about the same, which means the selection will be refreshed throughout the sale as sold items make additional space for more titles, so shoppers are invited to make multiple visits.
The first weekend hardback books and media will be priced at $2 and paperbacks will be priced at $1. Hours will be 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, May 1st, 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Saturday, May 2nd, and 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Sunday, May 3rd.
On May 8th (1:00 PM to 6:00 PM) and 9th (10:00 AM to 5:00 PM), those bargain prices get cut in half.
And then May 15th (1:00 PM to 6:00 PM) and May 16th (10:00 AM to 5:00 PM) are the dates for Bag Sale, where attendees are invited to fill up a grocery bag full of books for just $3.
The Library is very grateful to all the volunteers who make this event possible, and to the community for the support they offer through it. The continuing popularity of the book sale is a testament to the love of literacy that our community has and the value we place on books and learning. We’re excited to once again offer this opportunity for readers of all ages to stock up while supporting the Library’s ongoing programs and services.
