The Greeneville/Greene County Local Emergency Planning Committee met Wednesday morning at the Squad building for an update on emergency preparedness.
Solid Waste Director Jim Greene , Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison and EMA Director Heather Sipe spoke during the 45 minute meeting at the Squad building.
Morrison told those in attendance about the importance of getting the word out prior to , during and following emergencies, citing Hurricane Helene as a learning tool moving forward. Sipe discussed things learned from the flood waters which hit the area in late September of 2024. She also discussed preparations for spring and summer weather ahead. Greene updated attendees on permits required for and proper disposal of hazardous materials, including lithium batteries.
Eric Kaltenmark, Chairman of the Local Emergency Management Committee, moderated the meeting.
