Greeneville/Greene County Humane Society on Hal Henard Road will be closed today due to damage that occurred from an electrical fire yesterday afternoon.
At about 2 PM there was a smoke related smell in the shelter. Humane Society’s Administrative Assistant Katrinka alerted the staff and called 911. Within minutes the Greeneville Fire Department arrived at the shelter an extinguished the fire.
All the animals and staff at the shelter are safe. During an inspection, the Fire Department found a smoldering electrical fire in the ceiling. Cody from Air Pro Heating and Cooling also assisted in making sure all heating units were working properly and not damaged from the electrical fire.
Due to the damage done, the shelter will be closed today as they recover and clean up some of the damage. Although the shelter will be closed, the business will still be answering incoming calls, and will be accepting donations at (433) 639-4771. The shelter will open tomorrow from 12-3 PM.
