The Greeneville City Council meets this afternoon and will consider options for sidewalk modifications on Depot Street.

In the last council meeting, members heard from the Architect working on the Depot Street Project and had safety concerns for a slope in the sidewalk, particularly from Main to Irish Street. Three options were presented to address the issue of pedestrians possibly falling, due to not being aware of the slope on the sidewalk. The council requested for an additional option, which was a railing design.

The council will hear a presentation from Architect Dave Wright regarding repairs at Town Hall as well as discuss updating age membership requirements for the Roby Adult Center. The agenda includes a consideration to approve a bid proposal for the remainder of the renovation project at the Big Spring Room at Greeneville/Greene County Library.

There will be a Public Hearing for the second and final reading to amend a section of the Town of Greeneville Municipal Code, exempting the requirement for special event vendors to obtain a peddler’s permit.

A Public Hearing will also be held with a second and final reading to amend the Municipal Code and increase the number of special events, including events serving beer and wine. Council members had their first reading last month on the matter. Special events that require a permit was updated from 20 to 40 per year and events including beer and wine were updated from 6 events per year to 12.

Additionally, the council will discuss approval of HR Regulations and the Employee Handbook. The meeting will be held at 4 PM today at Greeneville Energy Authority, in the G. Thomas Love Boardroom.
