The Greeneville City Council approved an ordinance (1st reading) that will allow the Greeneville Water Commission to increase their water and sewer rates effective July 1st, 2024.
The increase will be about a five dollar difference for customers in the Town of Greeneville annually. City Councilwoman Ginny Kidwell asked what the additional funds from the increase would go toward. Laura White, Superintendent at GWC said it will go toward several capital projects.
The increase will also help GWC add more positions and will also go toward salary increases depending on employee evaluations. White said the commission estimated around $6M for their budget. A second reading is still required before any rate increase is finalized. The next meeting will be held on June 18th.
