The Greeneville City Council met Tuesday afternoon and approved a lease agreement and quitclaim deed for a property located on 1325 East Andrew Johnson Highway.
Both the lease agreement and quitclaim deed are needed as there is a substantial right of way along the parking area and side yard of the Greeneville Fire Department Station 3. It is known as the TDOT right of way.
According to Fire Chief Alan Shipley, the agreement is for the use and maintenance of the parking area and property where the sign for the fire station is located. Shipley said he was contacted by the Tennessee Department of Transportation and says they have agreed to lease the property to them at no cost, but states the agreement and deed are necessary in order for the Fire Station to stay in business and operate. Shipley said it was best to deed it into the town.
The City Council voted to approve both and the town of Greeneville is the Licensee, who would install and operate a parking area for the Greeneville Fire Department. Costs of any maintenance shall be at the expense of the town.
The council also had a Public Hearing and gave final approval for the rezoning of nine parcels of land, located along Pearl Street, West Irish Street, and Henry Street. The parcels were previously zoned incorrectly and will be rezoned from M-2 (Heavy Impact Use) to R-3 (Low Density Multiple-Family Dwelling).
