At the Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen meeting yesterday afternoon the board heard a presentation from business owner Jay Roths from R Enterprises, for an offer to purchase property in Hardin Industrial Park.
The property is located across the street from Crenlo and according to the board has been sitting empty for over 20 years. R enterprises is looking to purchase the property for $5,000 an acre, with a total of over 20 acres in Hardin Park.
The company buys and remanufactures ambulances. Jay Roth said that all he needs is land and a building quickly and that would give the company the chance to expand. Optimizing their space would allow the company to hire more employees and would help them continue to grow.
Alderman Tim Teague wasn’t against the idea of selling the property but was questioning if the town should part ways with one of their biggest properties. Alderwoman Kristin Girton felt it was a good idea and at least the property had a purpose now rather than continue the way it is.
Alderwoman Ginny Kidwell made a motion to authorize City Administrator Todd Smith and Greene County Partnership President Jeff Taylor to negotiate with R enterprises for an agreement on a fair and equitable price for the property. Mayor Cal Doty said the two working together would be ideal because of the economic and community development aspect it involved. He’d like for the negotiation to be done no later than the second meeting in February, at which point there would be a discussion and consideration with the board.
