Greene County YMCA Executive Director Mike Hollowell addressed the Greeneville Planning Commission Tuesday about plans for state funded construction on the current YMCA property off East Church Street.

As part of the Governors $15 million initiative to support YMCA’s state wide, the local Y is earmarked for $1.3 million which Hollowell says would be used for construction of a 9,000 square foot building and 3,000 square foot splash pad area.

Hollowell says plans initially were for a large covered pavilion, but plans being drawn up by Trademark General Contractors will allow for both indoor and open air opportunities.

Hollowell added the sixteen to seventeen bay doors surrounding the building will also allow it to feel like an open air facility when needed.

Being a direct appropriated project with time stipulations from the state, Hollowell and Travis Fleming with Trademark were invited to speak to the Planning Commission Tuesday to fast track the job. Architectural drawings Fleming says, should be ready in six to eight weeks, at which time the plan can be presented to the Planning Commission for approval. Trademark constructed the family locker rooms in the main facility at the Greeneville Y and has worked on several YMCA projects in the area.
