Greeneville, TN — January 20, 2026 — Greene County Solid Waste Director Jim Greene announced today that the Walkertown and West Greene Convenience Centers will expand their operational days to better serve the county’s rapidly growing population.
The expanded schedule is part of Greene County’s ongoing effort to ensure that essential services keep pace with community needs. Director Greene emphasized that the change reflects both increased demand and based on traffic patterns and tonnage, these two centers need an additional day of service. Both are consistently high-volume centers that can relieve a gap in coverage with the additional operational day.
“As Greene County continues to grow, our services must grow with it,” said Solid Waste Director Jim Greene. “Expanding hours at these two high-traffic centers will reduce wait times, improve accessibility for working families, and support the overall quality of life in our community.” The initiative, for which planning began in 2018, aligns with the broader priorities of Mayor Kevin C. Morrison, who continues to focus on strengthening county infrastructure, improving service delivery, and planning proactively for future growth.
The expanded hours will take effect on February 1, 2026, with Walkertown opening on Wednesday’s from 6 am- 2 pm and West Greene opening on Thursday’s from 6 am- 2 pm in addition to the days these centers are already open. Updated schedules will be posted on the Greene County Government website at https://www.greenecountytngov.com and on WGRV at https://wgrv.com/convenience-center-hours. Residents are encouraged to take advantage of the extended hours and to follow posted guidelines to ensure safe and efficient use of the facilities.
