The Greene County School Board of Education made a motion during their meeting Thursday to put out two bids for the Career & Technical Education (CTE) additions at Chuckey Doak and West Greene High School.
The CTE additions would include classes like Cosmetology, Nursing, Welding, Mechanical and Electrical Shops, and Industrial Maintenance. Plans for the additions were sent to the State Fire Marshal by Architect Dave Wright but only West Greene got approved so far. In a July Workshop, Wright estimated the projects would take up to possibly two years and the cost was estimated at around $17M.
In order to keep the project moving a motion was made by board member Gary Compton and seconded by Larry Bible and states that two bids would be sent out for the additions instead of just one. Two quotes would need to be provided for both schools with a possible change order for one or two contractors. The board was on the fence on whether or not they should have one or two contractors for the additions.
Board member Mark Rothe recommended putting both bids out in case there is a significant price difference between contractors. The board agreed that the decision would be made once the price was provided. No decision on the contractor will be made with out board approval. That discussion will continue in their next meeting scheduled for January 25, 2024.
