The Chairman of the Greene County Planning Commission is strongly suggesting members of that committee think twice about responding to questions or comments from citizens related to the Vulcan issue.
The committee met Tuesday in the General Nathaniel Greene Assembly Hall at the Greene County Administrative Center. That location was chosen when the initial agenda was released last week which included a proposal calling for action on the Vulcan request for rezoning of property from agricultural to industrial. The attorney for Vulcan later pulled the request. The assembly hall would likely have accommodated an anticipated large crowd related to the Vulcan proposal. Chair Gwen Lilley held the meeting there Tuesday to acclimate committee members to that location. It’s expected another Vulcan request will be made in the near future.
In the meantime, seated along side county Attorney Roger Woolsey and Planning Coordinator Amy Tweed, Lilley cautioned committee members on discussing the ongoing matter with Vulcan.
Lilley told the members “We are not supposed to talk about the issues with them or Vulcan. We’re supposed to hear both sides at the meeting and discuss at the meeting.” “If people come up to you and try to get you to talk about it and to sway you, you just need to say, I’m on the planning commission, but we are not allowed to hear anything until the meeting. If you have any questions or opinions, you can call the planning office.”
Lilley continued “you just have to keep your opinions to yourself.”
