Greene County Man Recommended For Ribbon For Valor For Lifesaving Efforts

A Greene County man who has dedicated his adult life to helping others locally and as a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard, is among those recommended for the Ribbon for Valor from the Tennessee Adjutant General.

31 year old Daniel Ray of Mosheim is a Police Officer there and a member of the Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad.  Currently he is assigned to the Memphis Safe Task Force as a military police officer and combat life saver.

The recognition for the Ribbon for Valor is related to his and other first responders efforts during the flooding from Hurricane Helene in September of 2024.

Ray, tethered to a rope held by other responders, swam to David Boutin, who had been holding onto trees for six hours after being swept into the Nolichucky River.

After reaching and securing the man, the two continued to fight the flood waters as they were pulled ashore by the other rescuers.

In a recent SOLDIER SPOTLIGHT, the Tennessee National Guard recognized Daniel Ray, commenting “Meet Spc. Daniel Ray from the 253rd Military Police Company.  Spc. Ray is proud to serve on the Memphis Safe Task Force because he knows his service makes a difference.  Tennessee National Guardsmen assigned to the Memphis Safe Task Force work alongside our local law enforcement partners every day to support the citizens of Memphis.
