The Greene County Insurance Committee, during their regular monthly meeting today at the Annex, voted to add general liability insurance to the county policy as it pertains to the county owned Dickson-Williams Mansion.

The action followed discussion with John McInturff concerning liability of the county as it pertains to the mansion property.  The Dickson Williams Mansion Historical Association will continue to carry its own general liability insurance as well as for the contents of the mansion.

At the Budget and Finance committee meeting earlier this month the Historical Association requested $10,000 as its annual allocation, which is the same as the previous fiscal year. However, the association also requested $13,000 to pay for the insurance on the historic Dickson-Williams Mansion. The property is owned by the Greene County government, and the association members serve as stewards of the property through a 99 year lease created in 1987. The association also requested $30,000 in one-time funding for repairs to the home caused by water damage  over the past several years. The association is in the process of upgrading the guttering on the house and working to fix the roof of the porch, according to association president Rich Boyd.

The committee recommended that the $10,000 annual allocation be fulfilled, and that the $30,000 one-time contribution also be made to address water damage to the building.

However, the committee members said they would like to explore adding the mansion to the county’s insurance policy since the facility is a county-owned building, leading to today’s discussion at the insurance committee meeting.

In the meantime the bathhouse at Kinser Park destroyed by the Hurricane Helene flood waters still has yet to be rebuilt.  The project has been put out for bids twice, the first time in April of last year.  But all bid proposals have come back considerably higher than expected.  Facing yet a third bid application process, on a suggestion from Sheriff Wesley Holt at the insurance committee meeting today, the county may look to bid the job in parts, such as masonry, roofing, electric and etc. in an effort to receive lower bids.
