Greene County Director of Schools David McLain announced Thursday night he will be retiring next month.
McLain, who has been Director for the past 9 years and 8 months, will have been in the education field for just over 30 years when his retirement becomes effective January 31st.
His announcement came near the end of the December meeting of the Board of Education at the Central Office.
Radio Greeneville News Director Bobby Rader spoke with McLain after the meeting.
Board Chair Rick Tipton thanked McLain for his years of service to the school system and for his friendship during their time together.
Tipton says plans are to advertise the job sometime next week.
David McLain graduated in 1997 from East Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, 2006 from Union College with a Master of Arts in education, and in 2010 from LMU with an Educational Specialist Degree.
Beginning his career as a teacher/coach for four years at Baileyton Elementary School, he was then placed at North Greene High School as a teacher, coach, and athletic director. Mr. McLain then taught and coached for two years at Greeneville High School. For six years, Mr. McLain served as principal at North Greene High School. Before becoming the director of schools in 2015, Mr. McLain served as the Assistant Director of Operations and Academic Services.
