The Greene County Democratic Party has launched a countywide voter engagement campaign to encourage residents to vote in the upcoming August primary by using Tennessee’s early voting period or voting on Election Day.
As part of the effort, signs promoting early voting are being placed throughout Greene County to remind citizens that voting is a vital part of civic participation. The campaign responds to low turnout in recent local elections and aims to encourage more residents to make their voices heard.
Only 19% of Greene County’s registered voters cast a ballot in the May 2026 election, meaning more than 80% of eligible registered voters did not participate in choosing their local leaders.
“Strong communities are built when citizens participate,” said Cheryl Summers, Chair of the Greene County Democratic Party. “Voting is the foundation of representative government, and every eligible voter deserves the opportunity to have their voice heard. We hope these signs serve as a reminder that every election matters and every vote contributes to the future of Greene County.”
Local elections directly affect education, infrastructure, public safety, economic development, healthcare, and other issues that shape residents’ daily lives. Party leaders say higher participation helps ensure elected officials better reflect the communities they serve.
The Greene County Democratic Party is encouraging voters to make a plan by checking polling locations, confirming registration information, and taking advantage of Tennessee’s early voting period whenever possible. Early voting offers greater flexibility and can help voters avoid scheduling conflicts or long lines on Election Day.
The campaign is intended to promote civic engagement and informed participation in the democratic process. The party encourages all eligible voters to learn about the candidates and issues on the ballot and exercise their right to vote.
“Our democracy is strongest when more people participate,” Summers said. “Whether someone votes early or on Election Day, taking the time to cast a ballot is one of the most meaningful ways to shape the future of our community.
