Despite the Democratic party votes in Washington continuing to keep the government closed and benefits for SNAP recipients in question, the Greene County Democratic Party is collecting food for “My Neighbors House” to support the hunger crisis in Greene County as a result of the reduction of SNAP benefits.
Listed below are things to think about when selecting food to donate.
-Many do not have access to kitchen appliances/no can openers. Therefore, think pop top cans, and peel tops. Think non perishables with long shelf life.
Some popular items include:
Cereal; instant oatmeal, grits (packets), rice
Canned beans, beanie weenies
Canned meats (tuna, salmon, chicken)
Canned soup and or beef stew
Canned fruit, apple sauces, dried fruit
Instant tea, lemonade, and juice boxes
Coffee
Canned vegetables
Ready to eat macaroni and cheese or Macaroni and cheese that does not require milk
Canned Ravioli or Spaghetti & Meatballs
Peanut Butter
Jelly
Peanut Butter or Cheese Crackers
Pasta and Spaghetti Sauce
Bottled water
Shelf stable milk
Nuts
Bread, Crackers
Granola Bars, fruit bars, breakfast bars, energy bars
Baby Food
Other items:
Dog/cat food, matches, candles, flashlights, toilet paper, disinfectant wipes, hand sanitizer, aspirin, first aid items, back packs
Donations may be brought to the next meeting of the Greene County Democratic Party which is Thursday, November 6, 7:00 pm, Walters State Community College, 221 N College Street, Room 139.

The party is also reminding those who attend on Thursday this will be the last meeting to meet the $250 match. A collection of $250 will bring the party an additional $500.
