The Greene County Commission, by a vote of 19-1 has officially gone on record opposing the Governors voucher bill proposal.
The vote came during the meeting of the full commission at the Greene County Courthouse.
The resolution was not on the original agenda but was added when Commissioner Josh Arrowood called for suspension of the rules, which required a 2/3rds vote by the full commission. Suspension of the rules was approved by a vote of 16-4.
Again, the vote against the voucher bill was approved by a vote of 19-1 with Commissioner Lyle Parton voting no and Commissioner Tim White absent.
Arrowood told Radio Greeneville News although it is a non-binding resolution as it pertains to what happens in Nashville, he feels it does send a message.
In addition to being a County Commissioner, Arrowood is a teacher in the Greene County School System. The Greene County Board of Education will also vote on a resolution opposing the bill when they meet today at 5:30 at the Central Office.
