The Greene County Commission met last night and approved all resolutions on their agenda including a change to the salary for each County Election Commission member, the budget amendment for proceeds from the sale of cattle, and the speed limit reduction for Davy Crockett Park Road.
Administrator Justin Reeves explained to the board that the committee currently gets paid per meeting and requested the change because of their additional duties to the community including regular meetings, called and training sessions, supervising election day activities, and performing other necessary duties and responsibilities to the office. With the boards approval they will now get a monthly salary of $190.
Greene County Attorney Roger Woolsey explained the sale of cattle was due to Animal Control receiving a complaint from a resident concerned that her neighbors cattle was running at large damaging her property. The complaint also stated the imposing a risk to citizens traveling on the road. Animal Control investigated and after 6 months the owner of the cattle surrendered them.
Many efforts were made by Animal Control and with assistance they captured the cattle and sold them at the Volunteer Livestock Market. The sale from the cows was $6,831.87 and will be used to pay for expenses relating to capturing the wild cattle, pay for damages to property owners. The remainder of the proceeds will be utilized to reimburse Animal Control for their time and expense.
