The Greene County Board of Education will be asked to consider a resolution next week to give teachers in the system a one time $2,000 bonus through the Education Freedom Act of 2025.
The item is on the agenda for the County School Board meeting Thursday, March 27th at 5:30 pm at the County School Central Office on West Summer Street.
Neither local system had taken any formal action on the bonus since it was approved during the special legislative session in January, opting instead to wait for more information on what signing up for the bonus entailed. The Governor had indicated that local school boards did not necessarily have to approve of the entire voucher bill in order to get the bonus for their teachers. School systems have until June 1st to officially notify the state of their intentions as it pertains to the bonus.
The Greeneville City Board of Education meets Tuesday at the Central Office, but the item is not on their agenda for discussion this month.
