Greene County is currently at a Slight to Enhanced Rick for severe weather this afternoon, level 2-3 out of 5.

Radio Greeneville spoke with Meteorologist Jeremy Buckles with the National Weather Service in Morristown. He confirmed Greene County could see damaging winds of 60 mph and flash flooding in areas, along with hail.  There is a slight risk of tornadoes east of the I-75 corridor, with a greater risk in areas west of Knoxville. Buckles said the earliest he expected storms in our area is around 6:00 PM, but most likely that storm front will reach our area between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM.

The midday update increased the expected amount of rainfall to between 1 1/3″ to almost 2″ through Wednesday morning.  Flash flooding may be possible.

Meteorologist Buckles said the storms should die off around midnight. He recommends having multiple ways to get your weather alerts if you don’t already. Since the storms will likely start this evening when the sun sets or throughout the night, many people could be asleep. He encourages people to have a safety plan, have a location that is safe to go to if there is a tornado, and make sure your phone is on and you can hear the alerts if you are sleeping.
