GEA CONNECT BROADBAND
GEA Director of Broadband Phil Bradley presented his monthly update to the GEA Board during their April meeting Tuesday. While monthly revenue continues to trend upward, there are still numerous cost in the continued startup of the program.
Bradley told board members paperwork for three BEAD Grants totaling $21.3 million with a 25% match has been submitted. The Broadband Equity, Access, and Development grants would help connect unserved and underserved locations of the county. Bradley projects, pending federal release of the funds, once awarded in the fall , work could start in 2026 and the project be completed by the summer of 2027, over a year ahead of the required completion date of the grants.
SOLAR POWER
Since no other solar sites are allowed in Greene County, GEA has entered into an agreement with TVA which will allow off-site solar participation. The “Flexibility 2.0” solar site agreement allows for a percentage of power to be obtained outside of Greene County.
JEFFERS NOMINATED FOR FIVE YEAR TERM
Justin Jeffers, who has been serving out the term of the late Jim Emory, has been nominated to a five year term on the board, effective July 1st.
