With increased traffic resulting in longer response times and the growth on the east end of the four lane, future plans could include moving Fire Hall 3 further east from its current location across the four lane from Greeneville Commons.
FIRE HALL 3 FUTURE
ALAN SHIPLEY
Those comments came from Greeneville Fire Chief Alan Shipley during the budget workshop on Tuesday.
During his budget report to the city council , Shipley says the parking lot at that location needs paving and that Public works has been so good about coming in and patching the parking lot. Shipley said however he would hate to spend and estimated $300,000, and then maybe we end up moving that station.

In response to a question, Shipley said he hasn’t begun the process of getting an appraisal or anything on the current property but admits it would be a good piece of property to put back on the tax rolls. Also to be considered would be the estimated cost to build a new station.
ASSISTANT FIRE MARSHAL
An Assistant to the Fire Marshal is also on the Fire Chief’s wish list for the new budget year. The need is based on all the development that has come in and the need to complete inspections of restaurants and other locations which have large gatherings.
The appointment is expected to be a current Lieutenant who would be replaced by a new hire, leading to an combined $85,000 cost for the step increase for the Assistant Fire Marshall and the salary for the new hire.
