A Newport man recently had his identity stolen after losing his wallet locally. The victim told Police he believes he dropped his wallet the end of May when leaving a business in the 1600 block of Hal Henard Road. On Thursday, the victim received a receipt for an Apple iPad he had not ordered. When Apple was contacted, they said the person had used the victim’s information to place the order.

The victim stated he had already canceled his debit card, so his bank account has not been affected. The wallet was described as brown, leather, with Marlboro stamped on it, and containing the victim’s debit card, I.D. and an unknown amount of cash.

Another victim reported credit card fraud Thursday. The victim told police her credit card was declined at a restaurant this week, and she requested a statement from her Credit Union. The fraudulent transactions were found to be mostly from Middle Tennessee, totaling $8,500.

Police responded to a welfare check for a male on East Milligan Drive. Upon arrival, officers were reportedly told that the man, Matthew Willett, of Mosheim, was extremely intoxicated. The report states Willett had slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. It was learned that Willett had a court order to not consume alcohol. He was placed into custody, charged with violation of an order of protection.

Warrant Arrests

Greeneville Police pulled over a vehicle for having no tag light Friday night. During the stop, it was found that the driver, Travas Wilhoit of Cosley Lane, had an active warrant for Contempt of Court, and had a suspended drivers license. A search of the vehicle reportedly found a black case containing methamphetamine and additional narcotic paraphernalia. Wilhoit was booked for Simple Possession, the warrant, and driving on a suspended license.

While responding to a motor vehicle accident Friday morning on West Summer Street, officers came into contact with Brandon Powell of Knoxville, who was showing an active warrant out of Sevier County. Powell was taken into custody and transported to the Greene County Detention Center.

On Thursday morning, officers performed a warrant check on Poor Farm Road. Matthew Lane was located in a back room at the residence, charged with flagrant neglect of child support.
