Tomorrow March 10, has been declared as a “Day of Hope” in Greene County and across the state of Tennessee.
Radio Greeneville spoke with Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison, who said Day of Hope is acknowledging the unprecedented and increasing levels of homelessness, limited options for mental and behavioral healthcare treatment, and rising deaths from drug overdose and suicide. The proclamation was done in hopes that those struggling will stay motivated, not give up, and know that there are better days ahead in this battle.
Tennessee is at the epicenter of this national crisis and according to the proclamation, 60,000 Tennesseans suffer from the dependence on prescription narcotics. Additionally, each day in Tennessee at least 3 people die from opioid related overdose, which is more than the number of traffic fatalities.
The Mayor encourages all to come together tomorrow, whether its moms, dads, friends, organizations etc., to support each other and listen, love each other, and keep hope. Take a day, a deep breath, know that you are valued, and be proud because you are a survivor!
