Former Greene County Sessions and Juvenile Judge James D. “Jimmy” Carter passed away Monday at his home. Carter was 78.
He was first elected as Greene County Sessions Judge in 1982 and held that position until 1998. Carter also served as Juvenile Court Judge. A lifelong member of Romeo Church, a member of Gideons International, board member of the Boys & Girls Club, and most recently an auctioneer with Class Land & Auction.
Jeffers Funeral and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 3PM at Romeo Church.

James D. “Jim” Carter age 78 of the Romeo Community passed away Monday March 11, 2024 at his home. Jim was a lifelong member of Romeo Church, a member of the Gideons International, and the Romeo Ruritan Club. Jim was also a 2 term General Sessions and Juvenile Court Judge, Board member for the Boys and Girls Club, and Col. auctioneer with Class Land and Auction. He is survived by his sister Linda Anne Carter of the Romeo Community, son Charles James “CJ” Weems, uncle and aunt Fred and Mary Ruth Carter, nephews and nieces Dean and Nancy Carter and Brian and Wendi Carter, brother-in-law Charles Russell Jr and special caregivers. He was preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Mary Carter, uncles Phil Carter and Dudley Carter, and aunt Patsy Love. The family will receive friends from 1-3pm Saturday March 16, 2024 at Romeo Church. The funeral service will follow at the church at 3pm with special friend Rev. David Gibbs officiating. Burial will follow in Price’s Cemetery at Romeo. Jeffers Funeral and Cremation Service are in charge of arrangements.
