Emergency personnel from Cocke County requested assistance from the Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad this morning in connection with overnight flash flooding.
The Greeneville squad was dispatched shortly after 7:00 am to assist in a “water rescue” related to a camper stuck between some trees as it related to the rising waters off Fowlers Grove Road in the Bybee community.
Around 7:30 this morning , the National Weather Service in Morristown issued a Flash Flood Warning for Northeastern Cocke County and Southwestern Greene County initially in effect until 11:30 am but has since been extended to 2:30 this afternoon.
Later in the morning , units from the Caney Branch and Tusculum Volunteer Fire Departments also responded with boats to Cocke County.
Local law enforcement reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area lead to several roads with flash flooding occurring. Between 2 and 5 inches of rain fell.
Authorities say there was flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
