CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. — Five Tusculum University student-athletes have been named All-America Scholars as selected by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA).
Earning WGCA All-America Scholar recognition are: Anna Ahonen, Emilie-Bergh Jacobsen, Adrienne O’Brien, Reagan Padilla and Lindsay Self.
Over 1,500 women’s collegiate golfers received this prestigious honor. Criteria for selection to be selected a WGCA All-America Scholar includes: 3.50 cumulative grade point average and compete in 50 percent of the team’s regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the 2023-24 academic year.
Ahonen, a freshman from Jyvaeskylae, Finland, accounted for a 3.80 GPA last year while majoring in business. She is a member of the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, Dean’s List and Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.
She finished second on the roster with her 78.41 stroke average while playing in 22 of Tusculum’s 25 competitive rounds. She finished in the top-20 on three occasions including her season-best sixth place showing at the Agnes McAmis Memorial.
Bergh-Jacobsen makes her inaugural appearance as a WGCA All-America Scholar. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Tusculum this past May where she graduated with cum laude distinction. She finished with a 3.54 GPA and is a member of the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Dean’s List, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List and the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll.
She played in all 10 tournaments for the Pioneers where she posted an 83.76 scoring average which included a pair of top-20 finishes. She placed 16th at the Cherokee Valley Spring Bash and 18th at the McAmis Memorial.
O’Brien repeats as a WGCA All-America Scholar after graduating from Tusculum in May with her Bachelor of Science degree in biology. She finished with a 3.68 GPA and is a member of the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Dean’s List, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List and the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll. Last year, she was the recipient of the Division II Athletic Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.
She competed in nine events and accounted for an 86.64 stroke average in her 22 rounds. She finished 29th at the McAmis Memorial and placed 40th at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational.
Padilla, a rising junior on the TU roster, has a 3.67 GPA while majoring in sports science. She returns as a WGCA All-America Scholar for a second straight season. The Gallatin, Tennessee native earned a spot on the CSC Academic All-District Women’s At-Large first team last month. She is a member of the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll, Dean’s List, Charles Oliver Gray Honors List and the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
Padilla established a new TU single-season record with her 75.40 scoring average last year while playing in all 10 events. She finished in the top-20 in every tournament including a TU single-season record eight times in the top-five. She claimed medalist honors at the King Invitational and the Converse Invitational. She also finished runner-up at the McAmis Memorial and tied for third at the SAC Championship with a 54-hole total 220 which is the second lowest in TU history. For her efforts, she was named her team’s most valuable player.
Padilla’s 76.86 career average is the fourth-lowest in school history. She has nine top-five finishes in her young TU career which are tied for fifth-most in program history.
Self, another rising junior for the Pioneers, also garners WGCA All-America Scholar laurels for a second consecutive season. The Lake City, Florida product has a 3.70 GPA as an education major. She is a member of the SAC Commissioner’s Honor Roll, Dean’s List, Athletic Director’s Honor Roll and the Charles Oliver Gray Honors List.
She logged an 84.44 stroke average while playing in all 10 tournaments this year. She earned runner-up honors at the McAmis Memorial with her 80-76=156. She opened the year with a 25th place showing at the King Invitational and tied for 28th at the Cherokee Valley Spring Bash.
The Pioneers finished the year with a 3.67 team grade point average which ranked second amongst Tusculum’s athletic programs.
