According to the National Weather Service the combination of winds, low relative humidity, and ongoing drought conditions will lead to an elevated fire risk today across the southern Cumberland Plateau and southern Tennessee Valley, especially during the afternoon hours.
Please refer to your local burn permitting authorities on whether you can burn today. Use extreme caution when burning as fires may get out of hand quickly in these conditions.
A hard freeze is expected across most of the area tonight, as temperatures are forecast to fall into the 20s, with some teens in the mountains. A Freeze Warning is in effect for the entire area from midnight tonight until 10 AM on Wednesday.
Additionally, the combination of northwest winds and cold temperatures will create wind chills near 0 in the Tennessee Mountains into Wednesday morning. Frost and freeze conditions could kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
