A fire on an Afton property late Sunday night is under investigation.
A Chestnut Ridge Road resident reported to the Greene County Sheriff’s Department he went to bed around 9:00 PM Sunday. He woke up around 12:45 AM to the smell of smoke and burning rubber. He looked outside and discovered his Dodge Charger at the top of a hill behind his residence smoking with flames on the ground beside of it.
The car was reportedly sitting for 2 years, did not have a battery, and did not have any fuel in it. The fire appeared to have started inside the passenger area of the vehicle. A couch and chair located around 20 feet in front of the vehicle were consumed by the fire.
There were apparent footprints in the dew on the grass leading away from the fire scene, down the back fence line of the property, and out to Middle Creek Road.
The vehicle was valued at $1,200. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.
