The Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen met yesterday afternoon and approved the renewal of the lease agreement between Greene County Solid Waste Transfer Station and Demolition Landfill.
Also approved was the purchase of a new truck for the fire department, and the appointment of Broderick Gillespie as the School Representative on the Greenville Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
At the end of the meeting, each of the Aldermen spoke and thanked W. T. Daniels for his 32 years of service in the town of Greeneville. Alderman Scott Bullington shared some of the mayors accomplishments.
Daniels said his neighbor Max Douthat asked him to run for City Councilman over 30 years ago. Daniels served as an Alderman for 20 years and has been the mayor for the last 12 years.
Alderman Bullington said that Daniels helped lead the downtown redevelopment, assisted in getting grants to bring broadband development in downtown, and pushed for the addition of School Resource Officers. His 12 year term is ending after Cal Doty defeated Daniels in the August 4th election for Greeneville Mayor.
