The Town of Greeneville has announced plans for a Back to Depot Block Party on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 on the “Festival Block” of West Depot Street, which runs from Main Street to Irish Street.
Back to the Future Theme
There will be several activities throughout the day with a “Back to the Future” theme. The theme was chosen to evoke nostalgic memories of Depot Street, while ushering in the excitement of Depot Street’s future.
Afternoon Events
Classic cars will be parked on West Depot Street near Main for the public to view and recall memories of earlier decades.
Doors will open at the Capitol Theatre on Main Street at 3 p.m. with photo opportunities in the lobby and a costume contest at 3:30 p.m. One of the prizes will be a $50 gift certificate for Firefly Esthetics, which is located inside Jan’s Salon on Depot Street. Additional prizes will be announced. The original Back to the Future movie will show at 4 p.m. Tickets are $5 each and can be purchased at the Capitol Theatre on their website at https://capitoltheatre.ticketleap.com/ or in person at the theatre. Tipton’s is planning to have Ryan Norton play live music inside their restaurant from 5 – 8 p.m.
Evening Events
The Pride of the Greene Devils, the Greeneville High School Band, will kick off the evening portion of the event at 6:30 p.m. by marching up West Depot Street. Donning their brand new uniforms, they will play some energetic tunes for the crowd.
Near a Delorean time machine and red carpets, speeches will be made by local officials to celebrate the past and future of Greeneville and Greene County. The unveiling of a new street clock by the Greeneville Rotary Club will be a highlight of the event. The clock celebrates the club’s founding in Greeneville over 100 years ago in 1920.
There will be a few special surprises during the event as DJ Robbie Britton plays 1950s to 1980s decades music. Many of the Depot Street businesses are going to stay open late for shopping, food and drink, giveaways, and/or special discounts. There will be carnival-style food vendors as well as a photographic tribute to Depot Street over the years.
Main Street: Greeneville will be having their Barrel & Leaf raffle at the Nickle Ridge Winery and broadcast on Facebook Live at 7:30 p.m. Raffle tickets are $50 each and can be purchased by calling 423- 787-0500.
