UPDATE: As of 11:30 AM a Tornado Watch has been issued in several counties including Greene County until 7 PM tonight.
Greene County Schools are closing at 1 PM. ESP and all afterschool activities have been canceled. Greeneville City Schools are also closing at 1 PM, and have also canceled all after school activities.
According to the National Weather Service in Morristown, thunderstorms are expected today and some storms will likely become strong to severe. Greene County is under an MODERATE RISK (level 4 out of 5), according to EMA Director Heather Sipe.
Primary risks will be damaging winds, large hail, localized flooding, and isolated tornados. A midday update indicated the highest concentrations of storms could be around 3PM, with isolated storms both before and after that time. The forecasting model shows clearing of storms/rain by 7 PM.
