EMS Hiring More Staff Since 2024 Fiscal Year Budget Passed

Since the budget passed for the 2024 Fiscal Year last month at the commission meeting, the EMS Department has been able to staff more employees and are looking to have a full staff in the next couple weeks.

The Greene County Budget and Finance committee met yesterday morning and made a motion to appropriate $1,750 to Emergency Medical Services for education and training purposes provided to students looking to become an EMT. The class has 10 students and requires at least 70% to pass. Some have already been hired full time.

A resolution was added to the agenda for a tax relief to low income elderly homeowners in Greene County that make approximately less than $35,000. Currently financial assistance is provided from the state with a 60% match from the county. A resolution was passed to increase that match to 100%. To receive the tax relief taxpayers would have to apply and see if they qualify. Others that could qualify include the disabled, veterans, and widows.

At this time only the elderly get tax relief funding from the state and a 60% match from the county, but if approved at the commission meeting later this month the county match would increase to 100%. To apply contact the trustee’s office in your city.

The committee also made a motion to appropriate almost $39,000 for Information Technology Maintenance and Communication costs from the Sheriff Departments Law Enforcement Support Office Program.

The Greene County Commission will meet August 21 and get final approval on all resolutions passed at the Budget and Finance meeting.
