Emergency personnel were dispatched by 9-1-1 to a water rescue call in the Nolachucky River near Birds Bridge last night around 6 o’clock.

The Greene County Sheriff’s Department says the incident began when a dog swam across the river and a man swam out to get the animal.  Both however became stuck on a log before making it out of the water onto the bank near concrete barriers on the bridge.  The man was unable to make his way up the embankment due to his injuries.  The Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad had been called to the scene but before they arrived Sheriff’s Deputies were able to bring the victim back to level ground where he was treated for minor injuries at the scene by Greene County EMS.
