Eclipse Comes And Goes Behind The Clouds

The solar eclipse came and went behind cloud cover for East Tennessee, and while it did seem a bit darker as it peaked at 3:09 PM, it also looked like most other cloudy, rainy days in East Tennessee.  A few street lamps did flicker on, but clouds obscured any view of the eclipse, which in our area would have not been a total eclipse.  This area of the country would have seen about 82% of the sun obscured by the moon.

While eclipses happen somewhere on the earth every year, the next one visible in North America won’t be until the year 2044, but will only be seen in Montana, and North and South Dakota.  But in 2052 it will pass from the Florida panhandle across southern Georgia to Savannah.  And in just 54 more years, in 2078, it will be actually cross just south of us, starting in New Orleans, through Atlanta, and Charlotte.

If that’s too long to wait, there is a partial lunar eclipse in September, and a total lunar eclipse in March of 2025.
