The driver of a tractor trailer was stuck in the wreckage of his truck for over an hour while rescue crews worked to free him.
A New York man driving a tractor trailer was unable to slow in time to avoid hitting another tractor trailer just past Exit 23 on Interstate 81 around 8:40 AM Saturday. The cab of his truck became wedged under the trailer of the other truck, with heavy damage. The driver was trapped by the crumpled mass.
First Responders were delayed by the extremely slick conditions and heavy congestion on the interstate from the crash, but were able to make there way to the scene. A large rotator wrecker capable of lifting the trailer off the cab of the other semi was also brought to the scene. It was nearly 10:30 AM before the driver was eventually freed from the wreckage. The other driver was not injured.
Traffic was backed up for several hours while the scene was cleared. There were several other reports of cars or semis stuck along I-81, causing slow driving conditions for most of the day.
