More details are available regarding the head on collision June 28th on the Newport Highway, where one person was flown from the scene.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident occurred before 10 PM near Kiser Loop when 19-year-old Luciana Reiser was traveling south on Highway 321. Another driver, 45 year-old Angelina Greene, was traveling north on the highway. Reiser reportedly entered the northbound lane and once she realized it was the wrong side of the road, she attempted to swerve back.
Greene swerved to try and avoid hitting Reiser but both vehicles struck each other head on. According to the report, Reiser admitted to texting when driving into the northbound lane. Reiser, Greene, and another passenger in Greene’s vehicle were also injured. A child was reportedly in Greene’s vehicle at the time of the crash. The child, who was in a car seat, received minor injuries. Reiser is being charged with due care and hands free law.
Highlands Air Rescue was called to the scene of the accident Friday on the 7500 block of the Newport Highway. The Caney Branch Volunteer Fire Department, Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad, Greene County Sheriff’s Department, EMS, and Tennessee Highway Patrol responded to the scene.
The Newport Highway was closed for over an hour while responders worked the scene.
