The Sequoyah Council, Scouting America recognized Dr. Alan Corley with the 2026 Good Scout Award for his lifetime of service to local Scouting in the Greeneville community during a breakfast event hosted by Asbury United Methodist Church. Asbury UMC has hosted a Scouting program for over 50 years while producing 90 Eagle Scouts.

The Good Scout Award is a distinguished honor presented by local councils to community leaders who exemplify the values of the Scout Oath and Law in their daily lives. It recognizes individuals for outstanding community service, leadership, and integrity, rather than just Scouting involvement.
Dr. Corley has served as a Scouting volunteer for over fifty years. He was instrumental in organizing the regional Scout Conservation Camporee in 1986, which brought over 650 scouts together to complete conservation projects for state and national parks. Cub Scouts in Greene County race their Pinewood Derby cars on the “Alan Corley Speedway”, through a generous donation for a computerized racetrack made by Dr. Corley.

Scouting programs in the Nolachuckey District, Sequoyah Council served 353 youth through 14 community-based programs in 2025. These scouts earned 162 merit badges, 1295 Cub Scout Adventures, and 1,440 hours of community service. The Sequoyah Council will celebrate our 90th anniversary this year.
