A house at 5305 Mt. Carmel Road was destroyed by fire on Friday afternoon.
The Greene County Sheriff’s Department responded around 3:45 PM. The house was fully engulfed in flames and firefighters were attempting to get the blaze under control.
The homeowners were out of town at the time. A passerby called to report the fire. Two dogs were inside the home and reportedly died in the fire. A car and motorcycle were destroyed in the fire, along with a playground set and two lawnmowers. A pickup truck parked in the driveway sustained noticable damage.
The Mosheim, Town of Mosheim, United, Midway and Greeneville Fire Departments responded to the scene, along with the Debusk Rehab Unit, Greene County EMS and Greeneville Light & Power.
Upon investigation, the fire appeared to have started around the carport and kitchen area of the home. There was a refrigerator and chest freezer on the carport plugged into the same outlet and a refrigerator in the kitchen, all possibly on the same circuit. A direct cause was undetermined though, according to the Sheriff’s Department report.
