A man was arrested Sunday for Animal Cruelty after a dog was found in a vehicle in the Publix Parking Lot.
Police were called to 2321 East Andrew Johnson Highway on the report of a dog left in a vehicle with the windows up in almost 90-degree weather. The dog appeared to be in distress according to the report and Publix called the owner through the intercom to come outside.
After no sign of the owner and video footage confirming the dog was left for about an hour in the car, the doors were unlocked through a crack in the sunroof. A bowl was found inside the car but there was no water left.
The dog was reportedly foaming out the mouth and having trouble breathing. Animal Control took the dog inside to the restroom, took its temperature and gave it water. The dog caught its breath but was still off balance. They kept the dog over night for observation.
The owner, Angel Amado from out of state, came out eventually and was arrested and transported to the Greene County Detention Center.
