A three-year-old child was flown from the scene of a pool incident on the 3400 block of Holly Creek Road Sunday afternoon. The child was able to breathe again before being transported to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment.
According the Greene County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Brian Hiatt arrived on the scene after 3 PM following a report of a three-year-old boy who fell into a pool and drowned. Upon arrival, the child was unresponsive and had a blue tint to his skin. Dr. Robie Hensley was on the scene performing chest compressions and received assistance from the deputy, while the child’s mother administered breaths to clear his lungs. CPR continued until medical units arrived.
The child was able to breathe on his own and his pulse returned before Highlands Air Rescue transported him to the hospital. It is unknown how long the child was in the pool, but he was reportedly unresponsive for approximately seven minutes.
Volunteers from the Tusculum Volunteer Fire Department and the Greeneville Emergency and Rescue Squad responded, as well as Washington County EMS, due to other units being unavailable at the time.
