Greene County’s Delinquent Property Tax Sale was held on-line on December 29, and eleven of the fourteen parcels were sold to Greene County bidders.
The Greene County Commission had expressed reservations to moving the sale on-line, fearing that opening the sales to on-line bidders could result in the properties being bought by people living outside Greene County who may not develop the property in the best interest of Greene Countians. They had asked county attorney Roger Woolsey to ask Chancellor Douglas Jenkins to delay the auction.
However, Jenkins allowed the sale to proceed, but in his ruling said he would be open to discussions with the county on the future of tax sales.
Kay Solomon Armstrong, the Greene County Clerk & Master, said that of the 14 properties that were up for bid, 11 of those were sold to Greene County bidders. Of the remaining three, two were from Tennessee and the third was from Florida.
