Debris Cleanup, Removal Taking A Toll On Local Roads

Work to recover from the damage caused by the September flooding is leading to another problem, that being damage to area roadways because of heavy vehicles.

The topic came up during the Wednesday meeting of the Budget and Finance Committee meeting.  Road Superintendent Kevin Swatsell says that Buckingham Road from Pinto Road to the crossroads, and the entire Mt. Hebron Road, are showing the most damage.

Swatsell says the contractor Phillips and Jordan, the contractor that cleaned up the World Trade Center by the way, is doing a great job on clean up efforts locally.  But he says, the large trucks traveling on roads not intended for such traffic, has led to the issue that won’t go away anytime soon.  When contractors do finish their work, Swatsell, County Attorney Roger Woolsey and Mayor Kevin Morrison said they want assurances damaged roads are repaired by the contractors.    By days end , it appeared as thought the county had gotten its answer.

In the meantime , extreme caution and patience is advised for motorists in those particular areas and any others when roads that have been damaged during the ongoing debris removal, renovations and rebuild.
