David Brooks is not a firefighter. But the Desert Storm veteran is an American, a proud American who was among those in attendance Thursday night at Tusculum, honoring those who lost their lives on 9-11.
He told Radio Greeneville News, where he also spends a few hours each week, “I participated as a way to remember the firefighters that died on 9/11. The flag I carry is from the 10th anniversary, and it’s made up of all the names of those who were killed that day, from all the passengers on the planes, all the firefighters, police, EMT, Port Authority, and the civilians in the towers and from the Pentagon.”
Moving forward, Rev. David Brooks, who is the pastor at Hermon Methodist on the 107 Cutoff and Pleasant Hill Church at Horse Creek, says there is one thing he misses.
Brooks served in the 2nd Marine Division and was a combat engineer. He participates in the 9/11 Memorial services in memory of Chief Orio Palmer.
Palmer was one of two firefighters who actually reached the crash site on floor 78 in the south tower in an effort to rescue those trapped in the burning building.
