The Greene County Regional Planning Commission will consider revising regulations on tiny homes and the moratorium on campgrounds when they meet on Tuesday. The effects of the floods of Hurricane Helene are driving both discussions.
The Commission will consider asking the full County Commission to rescind a 2017 resolution that defines and limits where tiny homes may be built. While FEMA may provide temporary housing for those who lost homes due to the flood, that process can take several months. One of the restrictions enacted in 2017 was that tiny homes could only be located in agricultural zones. But with cold weather approaching, the need for flexibility for those who may be needed housing due to the disaster is being taken into account.
The board will also discuss recommending that a moratorium on the construction of new campgrounds or expansion of existing ones be extended until March of 2025. The County Commission put a six month moratorium in place in June which was set to expire in December. However, with the floods of Helene, the Planning Department staff has asked for more time to review the impact of any proposed regulations.
The Planning Commission meeting is at 1:00 PM at the Courthouse Annex.
