The Greene County Commission approved for the County Mayor to apply for two grants during their meeting Monday evening.
The Community Development Grant for $1M is for repairs and improvements at Kinser Park located on 650 Kinser Park Lane. If the county receives the grant it will help with renovations, health and safety at the Kinser Park Pool and resurfacing, installation of ADA compliant playground equipment, safety and accessibility to the boat ramp, resurfacing of the tennis courts and putt-putt course, and lighting for the ball fields.
The second grant is the Tennessee Agricultural Enhancement Program Grant for $150,000 and will help construct an Outdoor Learning/Demonstration Pavilion. This is to be constructed on the Takoma Campus near Coolidge Street, in a vacant lot owned by Greene County. The pavilion would facilitate onsite-learning experiences, community events, or meetings, and would be used by the Extension Office, Gardening Programs, or as needed. The total amount of funds could exceed $150,000 but is not to exceed $275,000.
There was also a discussion on rules and zoning for campground sites/RV Parks. After an RV Park was approved for Camp Creek it raised some concerns for residents and zoning questions. Now residents want to make sure zoning requirements are looked at before another piece of farmland is turned into a campground. The Greene County Regional Planning Commission is to review campground rules and zoning and will discuss recommendations for the County Commission to consider.
Furthermore, the commission approved a 20 year Interlocal Cooperation Agreement between Greene County, the City of Tusculum, the Town of Greeneville, and Tusculum-Greeneville-Greene County Industrial Development board for the 335-acre Greene Valley Development Center property. The city, town, and county have agreed to share the costs endured by the IDB through grants from the state and will work together to maintain and develop the property.
The property was previously owned by the state and the county plans to use the land for industrial purposes, which would result in job growth, sales tax and property tax growth within the entire county.
