Local Republican and Democratic primaries were held Tuesday for Greene County Commission seats, and the Republican primary decided some elections as Democratic candidates did not file to run in several districts.

The County Commission will see some new and familiar faces according to Tuesday’s unofficial results, but some primary winners will still face challengers in the August General Election from candidates from the opposite party and independent candidates.

The top three finishers in the Republican Primary in each commission district moved on to the August General Election. There were no contested commission races in the Democratic Primary.

All election results reported Tuesday night are unofficial until certified by the Greene County Election Commission.

The following vote tallies are the results of the County Commission races in the Republican Primary.

1st District

  1. David McLain- 833
  2. Dale “Bud” Tucker- 713
  3. Kathy Crawford- 603
  4. Bryan Henderson- 414
  5. Kaleb Powell- 263
  6. Write-ins- 12

McLain, Tucker, and Crawford will move on to face independent candidate Christopher Stone in the August General Election. Crawford is the only incumbent running in the race. The top three finishers of that race will fill the three County Commission seats up for election.

2nd District

  1. Chase Murray- 802
  2. Brad Peters- 666
  3. Travis Hoxie- 552
  4. Alan Marsh- 499
  5. Regina Haney Nuckols- 389
  6. Write-ins- 19

Murray, Peters, and Hoxie will move out of the Republican Primary and face Democrat Joshua Franklin, who received 46 complimentary votes in the Democratic Primary, and independent candidates Reagan Arrowood and Marie Marsh in the August General Election. Murray and Peters are incumbents. The top three finishers in August will take seats on the County Commission.

3rd District

  1. Jason Cobble- 788
  2. Jan Kiker- 785
  3. Robin Quillen- 657
  4. Michael “Mike” Gregg- 641
  5. Write-ins- 16

Cobble, Kiker, and Quillen, all incumbents, were the top finishers in the Republican Primary. The race was one of the closer ones of the evening, with Quillen edging out Gregg by only 16 votes for a top three spot. The trio will face Democratic candidate Donald J. Townsend, who received 52 complimentary votes in the uncontested Democratic Primary, in the August General Election. The top three finishers will take seats on the commission.

4th District

  1. Edwin J. (E.J.) Swatsell- 684
  2. Bryan Jones- 556
  3. Lyle Parton- 540
  4. William “Bill” Dabbs- 514
  5. Eddie Jennings- 493
  6. Jim Greene- 274
  7. Norlaine (Nora) Hensley- 274
  8. Write-ins- 5

Swatsell, Jones, and Parton won election to the Greene County Commission Tuesday night by being the top three finishers in the crowded primary field as no Democratic or independent candidates filed in the district. As with the 3rd District, the race was similarly close with Parton claiming a top three finish over Dabbs by 26 votes. The three Republicans will run unopposed in the August General Election. Parton and Dabbs were incumbents in Tuesday’s race.

  2. Gary Shelton- 987
  3. Terry Cannon- 917
  4. Pamela Carpenter- 782
  5. Write-ins- 9

Holt, Shelton, and Cannon will take seats on the County Commission after winning the Republican Primary as no Democratic or independent candidates filed in the district. The three will run unopposed in the August General Election. Shelton and Carpenter were incumbents in the race.

6th District

  1. Josh Kesterson- 550
  2. Larkin Clemmer- 516
  3. Tony Jones- 515
  4. Larry Justis- 304
  5. Charles Jessie- 261
  6. Lee Shane- 179
  7. Write-ins- 4

Kesterson, Clemmer, and Jones will move out of the Republican Primary and face Democratic candidate John Squibb Waddle Jr. in the August General Election. Waddle received 29 complimentary votes in the uncontested Democratic Primary. Clemmer and Waddle are incumbents in the race. The top three finishers will take the three seats up for election on the County Commission.

7th District

  1. Lisa Bowman Anderson- 520
  2. Paul Burkey- 497
  3. Teddy Lawing- 451
  4. April Lane- 442

Anderson, Burkey, and Lawing, all incumbents, were reelected to their seats on the County Commission Tuesday night as no Democratic or independent candidates filed in the district. The trio will run unopposed in the August General Election. The 7th District Republican Primary race was the closest of any contest Tuesday evening, with Lawing claiming a top three finish over Lane by only 9 votes.
