The Greene County Board of Education met yesterday afternoon and approved all items on their agenda including an Animal Science Learning Lab at West Greene High School.
The lab would be an outdoor structure that would include sheep, goats, and eventually could include calves to raise for students. There is a reimbursable grant available from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture for over $81,000. Greene County Schools have been asked to provide funds upfront and would be reimbursed by the department.
There would be community help for the project meaning work for the site would basically be paid with donations, not including the reimbursable grant. The next step is to meet with the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and then there would be a follow up with the board.
Other items approved include bids for the Chuckey-Doak Middle School renovation project, Occupational Therapy contracts with Grace Rehabilitation Center, Inc. for 2023-24 at Mosheim and McDonald Elementary, Chuckey Elementary, Chuckey-Doak Middle School as well as Chuckey-Doak High School. All policies on first reading and second reading were also approved.
