The Greeneville City Council met yesterday afternoon and heard from Greene County Partnership President Jeff Taylor, who confirmed that after years, Greene County has officially gotten ownership over the Greene Valley Developmental Center Property.
Both Greene County Mayor Kevin Morrison during the County Commission meeting and Taylor, stated after a meeting in Nashville, it was discussed the property with more than 330 acres is now in local hands. The closing on the property will be near the end of January or early February, according to Taylor. He said the county is just waiting on the lawyers to do their part in terms of paperwork. Taylor added this is a way of Greene County taking control of their destiny, as the property was previously owned by the state.
The City Council approved a resolution to make changes to the Human Resources Regulations and Employee Handbook, pertaining to call-back pay and on-call matters. City Manager Todd Smith explained this is an On-Call Program for the Public Works Department, which will allow an employee to be available and on call per week, with a $100 stipend. This is necessary as winter approaches and there could be severe weather to come, as well as any emergency that may arise.
Smith explained the would like to do a similar program for police and firefighters and will bring the resolution before the City Council on a later date.
